I Know
by David LaBounty

I know the blood,

the blood that freezes
when whiskers and
used toothpaste line
the bathroom sink

I know the eyes,

the eyes that squint and smoke
when the lid is left up,
when the fingernail clippings
and piss miss the bowl and
fall on the bathroom floor
like so many thrown away dreams.

I know.

I know those eyes,
the eyes that wonder
about the meaning of

god and fidelity.
