Squeezebox
by Steven Schroeder

The better the quality of reed, the less it will wander from the pitch
it is tuned to...
from a note on wet and dry accordion sound

Even the best
reeds wander. Still,
bellows are sound

for their age. Less
than a trace of Texas
gone, tone

drips more conjunto
than my hands know.
A fragment of polka

remembered, buzz
from broken bass
button calls Grandpa

to mind wheezing
sixty years of stale
smoke, dances.
